About the exhibition<\/h4>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The exhibition responds to the longstanding demand from gallery visitors for information about the events preceding the founding of our institution. These inquiries often come from first-time visitors, either tourists or attendees of openings, for whom the brief information on the metal plaque in the foyer or in our modest “bulletin” does not suffice. Particularly since the pandemic, the number of such visitors has grown.<\/p>

Not all visitors are from Senica or its surroundings and not all residents of Senica are interested in the manor and its history. However, the questions they pose, combined with the upcoming anniversary of the gallery\u2019s establishment, inspired us to take an experimental step. In a limited space, we aim to showcase paintings that adorned the manor\u2019s rooms decades ago, original furnishings that filled the rooms of its last female residents, and smaller functional and decorative objects that brought them joy.<\/p>

These are fragments of history primarily from the first two postwar decades, the 1950s and 1960s, though several exhibited artifacts are significantly older. It is well known that the manor\u2019s interior was destroyed by fire in the mid-19th century, leaving no trace of the original furnishings or decorations. Even this small sample of history is only possible thanks to the collaboration of Dr. Adri\u00e1n Ne\u010das, who lent us the exhibits, and to J\u00e1n Petr and J\u00e1n Hromek, who, in addition to providing invaluable information, also shared negatives of original photographs of the manor from approximately the past 100 years. Enlarged reproductions of these photographs make up the second part of the foyer display.<\/p>

This exhibition is one of two planned to mark the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Z\u00e1horie Gallery of J\u00e1n Mudroch in Senica. We see it as a first step toward a broader future presentation, which will be based on the research and writings of Dr. Peter Brezina. One comprehensive text\u2014on the history of the gallery\u2014forms part of the bilingual anniversary catalog covering the gallery\u2019s activities from 2014 to 2024.<\/p>
